On Thursday 6th March, the College hosted a play on drug abuse awareness for Year 11 pupils, as part of our ongoing efforts to educate and empower students to make healthy choices. This powerful and engaging play, 'I Love You, Mum - I Promise I Won’t Die' tells the story of Daniel Spargo-Mabbs who tragically died at the age of 16 from an overdose of MDMA. Charting what happened to Dan, the play examines the decisions he made, and how his death affected his family and friends – from tragedy to redemption – all told in their own words.
The aim of the production is to leave no student in doubt that they always have a choice about the decisions they make and that the risks associated with illegal substance misuse are incredibly high. The session concluded with a workshop that helped boys make informed decisions and come up with strategies to escape from difficult situations.
Many thanks to the Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation for supporting young people to make safer choices and reduce harm by increasing their understanding of the effects and risks of drugs and alcohol, and to Ever Unique Productions who performed the play, promoting education through performances and workshops.
A full range of resources and support for students and parents can be accessed by emailing play@dsmfoundation.org.uk. More information about the production itself can be found at https://www.everuniqueproductions.com. Any further questions should be directed to Mrs J Bailie, Coordinator of Learning for Life and Work hmoffice@campbellcollege.co.uk.
