The Campbell College swim team has had an exciting start to 2025, participating in multiple competitions and showcasing their talent and dedication.
Ulster Schools Junior and Intermediate Swimming Championships
The first event on the Campbell College Swimming calendar was the Ulster Schools Junior and Intermediate Swimming Championships held at the Blair Mayne Sports Complex in Newtownards. Our swimmers performed exceptionally well:
Reuben (Year 12, Dobbin's): 1st in the 50M Butterfly, 2nd in the 50M Free, 3rd in the 100M IM
Jacob (Year 10, Dobbin's): 3rd in the 50M Free, 4th in the 100M IM
Ben (Year 12, Price's): 5th in the 50M Breast
The intermediate team of Reuben (Year 12, Dobbin's), Jacob (Year 10, Dobbin's), Ben (Year 12, Price's), and James (Year 12, Dobbin's) lifted gold medals in both the 4 x 50M Medley and Freestyle relay events, demonstrating their potential as a talented team for the future.
Bath Cup and John Nelson Medley
On March 5th, the college swim team, consisting of Tom (Year 14, Davis's), Reuben (Year 12, Dobbin's), Ben (Year 12, Price's), James (Year 12, Dobbin's), Jacob (Year 10, Dobbin's), and Fraser (Year 10, Davis's), travelled to London to compete in the prestigious Bath Cup and John Nelson Medley.
The team spent Wednesday and Thursday morning sightseeing in sunny central London, including a visit to the aquarium. The first competition of the tour was the Whitgift Schools’ invitational meet in South Croydon, where the team finished in a credible third place.
The main event on Friday was held at the London Aquatics Centre in The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford. Despite swimming personal best times, the team narrowly missed out on the finals of both the Freestyle and Medley events.
The tour concluded with a traditional Swim team dinner at an Italian restaurant in Russell Square before returning to Belfast. All the swimmers thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to future competitions.
