For the first time ever, Campbell's full archives were open to the community, with a vast range of material on show. Pupils, teachers parents, OCs and friends of the College visited to see some of these rare items up close. The display featured themed content including; items relating the College estate such as rare maps and plans of the campus, War records, CCF/Pipe Band images , Houses photos, sports photos, items from past drama productions, debating society minute books from the early 1900's and many other College memorabilia. We were delighted that our community partners at PRONI brought some of the original photographs of our Men Behind The Glass for visitors to view. The photos are in a very fragile condition and being well looked after for us by the public records office.
Visitors connected with the archive over the afternoon and enjoyed looking through Campbellian magazines, seeing what school life was like in the past but also how the magazine has evolved from its First Edition in 1895 when it was called Touchstone. Many enjoyed finding their family members mentioned in the magazine as well as in the old House photographs or sports photos. A few remarked how many photos featured Mr.McKinney! We were delighted that Mr.McKinney joined us and he enjoyed talking to pupils about some of the events he remembered and was able to provide context to many of the items on display.
We have provided a range of photos in the media gallery. If you can's see the photos below please log in. This is necessary since photos are private to our community.
Digital Archive SIte Launched Today!
As well as having so many amazing items on display, we were also delighted to show our new digital archive! Mr. Brown and his Year 8 class were the first to be shown around the website, which has fully launched today. Mr. Mark Coleman and Mr. Andy Harris, who are systematically digitising our records, showed the boys around the site and how they can search through the information. He also commented that one day, they will also feature in the archive!
We are very excited that our digital archive site has now launched and look forward to the next phase of its development. We will report back on that soon but hope you will take some time to enjoy what we have available to date. You can access our Archive site here. It also available on the Old Campbellians website.
We will be bringing you further updats on the archive. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the archive, please contact Claire Bunting or Cathy Law in the Development Office.
