3065 MacDERMOTT, Sir John Clarke, died on the 13th of December 2022, aged 95 years.

Sir John MacDermott was a leading member of the judiciary in Northern Ireland. A former barrister who became a Northern Irish Queen's Counsel in 1964.

Sir John, studied at Campbell College, Trinity Hall, Cambridge and Queen's University Belfast, he was called to English Bar by the Inner Temple and the Bar of Northern Ireland in 1949. He was appointed a Justice of the High Court of Northern Ireland in 1973.  .

In 1987, he was elevated to the Court of Appeal and made a Lord Justice of Appeal, and was knighted and sworn of the Privy Council. He retired from the bench in 1998.
