In total, following the obligatory cry offs, we had 53 golfers comprising of OCs and their guests, who took to the immaculately prepared course at The Royal Belfast Golf Club.  Despite an initial scattering of rain at about 11am the days play was bathed in glorious sunshine on the banks of Belfast Lough.

With OCs spanning 7 decades it was a truly memorable day, not least due to the eventual winner and undoubtedly as a result of Aleric Turtle’s (7779) shot on the sixth (undoubtedly memorable for him at least!)

As stated the course, the club facilities and catering were of the highest standard and we thank the club for their continued support and hospitality.  We were pleased to welcome the Club Captain Gavin Clarke (7300) as our guest.  Competitors received their limited edition OC Golf Shirts, commemorating the Colleges 125th Anniversary and three Srixon OC golf balls prior to heading off to the first tee.

We are again extremely grateful to Dave Moore (9675) of Mizuno and Garth Boyd (9938) of Taylormade for their generous donation of some of the prizes and to Andrew Ferguson RBGC PGA Professional also.

We had six two’s recorded, one of which was on the par 4 sixth, by Aleric Turtle (7779).  We made special mention of this at the prize ceremony, but it turned out he had already told everyone!

The dinner was attended by 55 in the beautiful main dining room of the club and many chose to have the wild boar sausages put on especially for our day.  We thank Jonny, Diane and their staff for the food and great service.  Special thanks also to Tracey, Jayne and Gareth (as well as the other bar staff) for their great and patient service in the bar.

The visitors prize was won by Damian Corrigan.  Best gross was won by James Pollin (7766) with a 71.  As to the winner, Andrew Wilson (7177) won his first prize at an OC golf day after many years of trying, just pipping Ben Turtle (8023) with Garth Boyd (9938) the defending champion, third.

Andrew  looks forward to defending it next year when we will again welcome as many OCs spanning the generations and their guests.  Details as to next years event will be posted in due course.
