It was great to have the return of this fixture on Friday the 24th of June 2022 after the Covid pandemic cancelling it in 2020 and 2021.
A strong OC team arrived at the College and attacked the College 1st XI bowlers from ball one. Paddy Park (10982), Paddy Hamilton (0770), Mark Best (11600) as the top three batters set a healthy run rate which was followed up by Allen Coulter, Charlie Beverland, Hamilton Coulter (9289), Archie Johnston and Jack Beattie ( 11096) all enjoying the great wicket and quick outfield to set an ominous score of 206 in 20 overs.
The College 1st XI were always under pressure with only Lloyd Andrews, Dan Solomon (12600) and Ethan Biggerstaff making double figures as a total 111 was reached in the second innings.
This however, despite the loss for the boys, was a thoroughly enjoyable day and it was great to have so many excellent CCB past players come back and enjoy playing more cricket at the College. It was a delight to hear their stories about how fondly they looked back on their cricket experiences at CCB. It was also noted about the quality of cricketers on the OC team, but yet CCB had never won the School’s Cup, unlike the current 1st XI who should therefore be very proud of the cup winning feat 7 days previously.
OC Captain, Jack Beattie received The Charlie Beverland Perpetual Cup and everyone trotted off in good spirits looking forward to the event again next year.
