Lytle’s
2426 Joseph Hannay Lytle (1917-1971), had been a pupil (in Alden’s) at Campbell from 1931 to 1936. In his final year, in addition to be Head prefect, he was Captain of 1st XV, 1st XI Hockey, and a member of the 1st XI cricket team. He went on to study Classics, with distinction, at TCD. During the Second World War he served as a Major in The Royal Hampshire Regiment, being Mention in Despatches. He was taken a prisoner-of-war in Italy in 1943. He was described as “a man of great urbanity, of infinite wisdom and tolerance”, Lytle joined the Campbell Staff in 1947. He was the Office Commanding the CCF from 1948-54, Housemaster of Chase's 1963-71 and was appointed Vice-master in 1966. He was the Chairman of the OC Society Council 1963-64. He died very suddenly whilst accompanying a cricket tour to Edinburgh in July 1971, and his name was given to a new Day Boy house in 1991.
