Dear OC
As we slowly begin to return to some degree of normality, I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight several OC Society related events and news items. Firstly, I would like to wish all the Year 12 and 14 Leavers well and every success for the future. The last couple of years has been both difficult and different for this group, to say the least! Walter Murphy (6907) recently met with the Year 14 Leavers and delivered out copies of Tales from the Tower to each and laterally OC branded water bottles to the boys. Thank you to all the Leavers who have already registered on the OC website and I encourage any Leavers still to do so to follow suit as it is a great way to stay in touch with your peer group.
Can I urge you all to keep an eye on the website for news of upcoming events throughout the year. Our Chairman, Dermot Parker (7467), has confirmed the date for the Annual OC Golf Outing as Friday 11th June at Royal Belfast Golf Club. Details of how to register for the Golf Outing can be found on the website or by emailing dermot.parker@gmail.com. We are also trying to confirm a date for the Annual Cricket match versus the College, this will appear on the website once agreed.
It is planned that The Headmaster, Robert Robinson, will update OCs virtually via Zoom on what the College has been up to recently and also importantly what the plans are for the future. Details of when and how to join these virtual meetings, planned for the 28th & 29 of June will be posted on the Events Section in the website in the coming week.
Plans for the commemorative statue to honour Nobel Laureate, Professor Bill Campbell (3171) are well underway, if you would like to contribute towards the cost of erecting the statue please visit the Shop section on the OC website we are still to reach our target figure. Whilst there, please see our new range of OC House Ties and Face Coverings, once purchased these can be posted to you or collected from the College.
2022 is the 120th Anniversary of the OC Society and to celebrate we will be organising a Centivintennial Dinner in the College, can I ask that you put the 11th February 2022 in your diary and book a table for you and your classmates. Unfortunately, we were unable to organise our usual OC Annual Dinner this year, but we are optimistic that we can pull together a special President’s Lunch on Friday the 8th of October in The Ulster Reform Club, Belfast. As soon as details are confirmed we will update the website accordingly.
Lastly, I would like to thank Walter Murphy for his work in keeping the Society functioning during these difficult and strange times and Dermot Parker for editing the Old Campbellian magazine. If you have any stories or news articles, that you would like to share, please forward them to oldcampellianeditor@gmail.com and keep visiting the website to keep up to date with what the Society is doing.
