This Sunday, January 23rd marks the anniversary of the death of our Founder Henry James Campbell. We are so grateful for his legacy and the generations of pupils educated at the College. As many of you know, Campbell’s wealth came from the success of his flax business at Mossley Mill in County Antrim. The Mossley Mill still exists today and was transformed in 2000 by Newtownabbey Council for their civic headquarters which includes a cultural centre and conference facilities.
The cultural centre houses displays dedicated to the heritage of the site where you can learn more about the mill during Campbell’s ownership. Of note is that as the success of the mill expanded, Campbell developed workers’ houses, a sports pavilion and a village school helping the local community thrive. It seems that before our school was founded, Campbell was already invested in education. We know that Campbell would be very proud of how much Old Campbellians have given to society, not just locally but around the globe.
