Jubilee Tree Commemoration

As part of the Jubilee celebration, The Queen has asked the nation to take care of the environment by adding to the UK's tree canopy in an initiative called the Queen's Green Canopy. Organizations, school, colleges and individuals were encouraged to plant native species to enhance the natural beauty and provide important environmental benefits to our local communities.

Campbell successfully applied to have a common alder species, recently planted on the driveway by Key Stage 2 to be registered on the Queen's Green Canopy. You can view our tree on the QGC interactive map. It's hard to visualise now but our little sapling will mature into a beautiful tree for our next generation to enjoy.

Silver Jubilee tree planting June 3rd, 1977

To commemorate the 1977 Jubilee, the College featured a Jubilee tree planting ceremony to mark the occasion. A total of 25 trees were planted which represented past and present Governors and staff who had served for more than 21 years. A commemoration service followed in Central Hall led by Canon John Barry, Rector of Hillsborough.

A programme was printed to mark the occasion and in the foreword, Headmaster Brian Wilson said:

It is right to seek to make this Jubilee as memorable as we can because few of us are likely to experience more than two in our lifetime; because we owe to our Queen a deep debt of gratitude for a life of unsparing dedication, leadership, wisdom and high principle that contrasts gloriously with much of what we see of public life about us: because as loyal subjects we should rejoice with her upon a great occasion.

This programme outlines all our acts of celebration and culminates in two ceremonies of thanksgiving and renewal: first a treeplanting to express our gratitude to those who have served Campbell well and to symbolise our faith in the future by planting for generations yet unborn; and secondly a religious service to give thanks for the Queen's Jubilee and to dedicate ourselves to serve her as she has served us.

The proceeds from the sale of this programme and the various events described therein will go equally to the Prince of Wales Jubilee Fund and our own Social Service Fund: good causes both, enabling as they do the nation's young to serve our nation.
