One hundred diners enjoyed a fine meal at the Annual Dinner on Friday the 10th of February. The 2017 President, Rupert Johnston (7000) welcomed all those in attendance and said how very honoured he was to be asked if he would take on the role of President.

During his speech he informed the diners about the Henry J Campbell Bursary, For the first time Campbell College is offering a 110% Bursary for a pupil entering the College at Year 8. This Bursary will carry the pupil through his entire time at Campbell – covering all fees and an extra 10% for uniforms and trips until he leaves. Open only to those in real financial need, and that applicants must be on ‘Free School Meals’ to qualify.

The Henry J Campbell Bursary aims to make a difference to individuals who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend Campbell. It will cost £21,000 for one boy to travel through Campbell College from Y8 – Y14. That is £3,000 per year.

This year the College will be offering one of these Bursaries but in the future our aim is to offer many more. But we need to raise the funds to do so. Further details are available via the Bursar 02890 763 076.

Robert Bell (6608) introduced the Guests and the Headmaster, Robert Robinson MBE, replied on behalf of the Guests.

The Guest Speaker was Mr Bryan Dunlop whose speech included reference to his working on a diamond mine in Angola under the most challenging of circumstances including a spell in captivity at the hands of the UNITA rebel army.
